Q: Is the TEAS exam required to apply to the RN and LVN to RN Program.
A:
Yes.  All students applying to the RN and LVN to RN Program must submit a passing TEAS V score of 62% or higher at the time of application both electronically and hard copy.  Students who do not have a 62% or higher TEAS V exam score are ineligible to apply to the RN and LVN to RN Programs.
Q: Does Fresno City College offer the TEAS V exam?
A:
Yes. The Health Sciences Division will offer the TEAS V exam every year in the month of July to Fresno City College students ONLY, pursuing the Registered Nursing major. Please be prepared to have a student identification number to demonstrate that you are a student within the college upon registering for the TEAS V Examination. Verification of your status will be assessed based upon your enrolled RN Major at Fresno City College. Dates and times of scheduled TEAS exams will be available soon. Students who have questions are asked to send an email to Stephanie Robinson, Director of Nursing, at Stephanie.Robinson@fresnocitycollege.edu.
Q: I have already taken the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) for another Nursing Program outside of Fresno City College. Will FCC Nursing Program still accept my scores?
A:
Yes. Students who have already completed the TEAS V exam with a 62% or higher score, must go to www.atitesting.com and request to have their scores transferred to Fresno City College when applying to the RN and LVN to RN Programs. There is a fee associated with the transfer of the TEAS V results. Upon electronic transfer, the verification of results will automatically be sent to the Stephanie Robinson, Director of Nursing and Janine Gonzales, Nursing Counselor who will accept your transferred TEAS V scores.

Q: What happens if I do not achieve a 62% or higher on the TEAS V exam?
A:

Students who did not achieve a 62% or higher on the TEAS V exam may participate in the TEAS Remediation Workshops offered within the Health Sciences Division at FCC.  Students interested in the remediation workshops can send an email to Stephanie Robinson, Director of Nursing, at Stephanie.robinson@fresnocitycollege.edu for more information. 

 

Q: What is the TEAS exam?
A:
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) was developed to measure basic essential skills in the academic content area domains of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. These entry level skills were deemed important for nursing program applicants by a nursing program curriculum expert. Students must earn an overall score of 62% or higher to submit an application to the Registered Nursing and LVN to RN Program. Students who earn an overall score below 62% may enroll into remediation workshops within the Health Sciences Division at FCC. Students may call the Health Sciences Division office at (559) 244-2604 and ask to speak to Stephanie Robinson for more information on the remediation workshops.
Q: How much will the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam cost me?
A:
The cost of the TEAS exam at Fresno City College is approximately $45.00.  Students will be asked to pay the cost of the exam at the time of testing by using a major credit card or debit card only.  The remediation workshops offered within the Health Sciences Division are free of charge.
Q: I took the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) more than two years ago. Will Fresno City College Nursing Program still accept my scores?
A:
Yes. FCC Nursing Program does not have a recency requirement on a TEAS exam. However, students are now required to complete the TEAS version V exam with a 62% or higher score to apply to the RN and LVN to RN Programs.  Any previous versions of the TEAS exam will not be accepted.
Q: Is Fresno City College Nursing Program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. (NLNAC)?
A:
No. Fresno City College Nursing Program is not accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.  The NLNAC is an optional accreditation process for community colleges.
Q: When can I register for classes?
A:

Registration for all students for Summer and Fall 2012 classes is going on now. The deadline to register for Summer classes is Thursday, June 14th. The deadline to register for Fall classes is Thursday, August 9th.

Q: When should I see a Health Sciences Counselor?
A:

Prior to meeting with a Health Sciences Counselor, students are required to attend a Nursing and Allied Health Information Orientation.  Students can attend the orientation "ONLINE" or on a "LIVE" basis.  For the online orientation and/or dates for a "LIVE" orientation please go to www.fresnocitycollege.edu / Health Sciences Division/ Orientations.

Students should make an appointment with a Health Science Counselor if they:

  1. have questions regarding the prerequisite courses and the sequencing of courses. 
  2. have completed courses at other colleges and want to know if the courses will transfer. 
  3. have foreign education transcripts. 
  4. have a substandard GPA. 
  5. have questions about their eligibility for a program.
  6. need to complete a Student Educational Plan

Q: How many transcripts are required to be submitted with my Health Sciences Program application?
A:
A: Students are required to turn in two official copies of all current college transcripts with their application to a Health Sciences Program. Students are also highly encouraged to order a third official copy of their transcripts for their own records.
Q: What does "ADMIN CLOSE" mean on the lottery database?
A:
A: Administrative or Administration close (ADMIN CLOSE) means that the Health Sciences Division personnel has closed your file because of failure to respond online to your lottery results. This is seen as a “no response” to an online request.
Q: What happens if I am misinformed by a counselor regarding Health Sciences Program requirements and procedures?
A:
Students should be meeting with a Health Sciences counselor regarding Health Science majors. However, students are always required to follow all instructions presented on the Health Sciences website. The Health Sciences website presents the most updated and accurate information for students to follow.
Q: If I was not selected for the spring 2011 Surgical Technology class will my application be automatically forwarded to the 2012 selection process?
A:
Students will not be automatically forwarded to the next selection process. If a student was not selected for the spring 2011 class, they had the option of forwarding their application to the following Surgical Technology selection pool. Students were required to inform a Health Sciences Division Counselor or the Health Sciences Office of their decision.
Q: If I was selected for the spring 2011 Surgical Technology class but have decided to decline, will I be automatically selected for the 2012 Surgical Technology class?
A:
No. Students who declined their selection to the spring 2011 class were given the option to have their name forwarded to participate in the spring 2012 selection pool. The spring 2012 class will be selected in September 2011.
Q: What version of the TEAS Exam does the Nursing Program at Fresno City College require?
A:
Beginning Spring 2012, Fresno City College will require the TEAS V examination to be enrolled in the nursing program. Students who took TEAS version IV prior to January 01, 2011 will be only accepted for admission up until the fall 2011 nursing program with the official transference of the test scores.
Q: If I am selected into the Nursing or a Allied Health program but unable to begin the program for specific reasons, can I defer my status?
A:
There will be no deferrals, for any reasons, for the Nursing or Allied Health programs.
Q: Do I have to reapply every semester for a Health Sciences program?
A:
Once you have applied to the Nursing or Allied Health Program, you do not need to reapply every semester.  Candidates not selected from the lottery will be required to reply online to be forwarded to the next lottery. It is the student's responsibility to reply to this response form by the deadline posted. NO EXCEPTIONS. Failure to respond by the posted deadline will result in your file being closed.
Q: If I have already applied to the LVN to RN, 30-unit Option, but have completed more of the application prerequisites for the "AS" degree option, what should I do?
A:
Applicants in the lottery for the LVN to RN, 30-unit option, must submit updated official transcripts to the Health Sciences Division after every semester a prerequisite is completed.  A re-evaluation of your application file will occur to indicate the total number of completed application prerequisites.  A re-evaluation will not occur without updated offiicial transcripts submitted to the HS Division office.
Q: Can I apply while I am "in-progress" with an application prerequsite?
A:
No. "In-progress" application prerequisite courses will not be accepted to apply for the Traditional Registered Nursing Program, LVN/RN,  Dental Hygiene Program, Radiologic Technology Program and Respiratory Care Program.  All application prerequisites must be completed to apply.
