FCC to host City Jazz Festival
On the heels of the 100th anniversary of the first jazz recording, Fresno City College will host the 27th annual Fresno City College City Jazz Festival from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on March 23 and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on March 24 in the FCC Theatre.
In years past, the festival was a one-day event but due to popular demand a second date was added.
Over 600 school jazz ensembles from the greater Central Valley have participated and over 10,000 students have participated in performances, master classes and workshops that are held at FCC. The workshops will focus on jazz improvisation, but will also include discussion of preparing for university auditions and careers in music, to name a few.
The festival features top-notch guest artists performing and presenting master classes, and excellent panels critique and work with every student that performs. Thousands of dollars of scholarships have been awarded to stunt performers.
The festival culminates with an evening awards concert. This year, New York saxophonist/recording artist Antonio Hart will perform with the FCC Jazz Ensemble and Festival All-Stars at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 in the theatre. Tickets for the concert are $15 general, $12 senior/Jazz Fresno/staff and $10 student.
Proceeds benefit the FCC Jazz Studies program and scholarships.
