Traffic Alert: McKinley Construction
Posted Date: 5/19/2017

Partial Road Closure on McKinley Avenue to Affect Entry to Fresno City College this Summer

Construction Notice: Closure on McKinley Avenue between Effie Street and Blackstone Ave.

Beginning on Monday, May 8, 2017, the City of Fresno will close McKinley Avenue to westbound traffic between Effie Street and Blackstone Avenue for the construction of a large-diameter water pipeline under the intersection. Eastbound traffic will be maintained through the area. This work is expected to take eight weeks, and westbound traffic will be detoured to Clinton Avenue.

Beginning on Monday, May 29, 2017, work will begin west of the Blackstone Avenue intersection on McKinley Avenue. During this time, McKinley Avenue will be closed to westbound traffic between Blackstone and Van Ness avenues, and to all through traffic between Van Ness and Palm avenues. Northbound and southbound traffic on Blackstone Avenue will be maintained. This work is expected to take eight weeks, and traffic will be detoured to Clinton Avenue. Following pipeline installation under the intersection of McKinley Avenue and Blackstone Avenue, the contractor will return in August 2017 to install pipeline along McKinley Avenue from Fresno Street to Blackstone Avenue.

This work is part of the City of Fresno’s Phase 2 Regional Transmission Mains (RTMs) project, a large-diameter drinking water pipeline on Olive Avenue from Fowler Avenue to Fresno Street, on Fresno Street from Olive to McKinley avenues, on McKinley Avenue from Fresno Street to Palm Avenue, and on Palm Avenue from McKinley Avenue to H Street. This project is part of the City of Fresno’s Recharge Fresno Program to improve the pipeline and water system facilities that will capture, treat and deliver water to Fresno homes and businesses, including surface water from the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

The contractor will implement strict traffic control and safety measures, including flaggers and detour routes to streamline traffic flow as much as possible, while maintaining safety for everyone. Vehicle traffic through the road closure will be limited, but businesses will remain open. Please pay attention to all posted signage and detour routes.
