Campus Update — December, 2016
Office of the President
I am pleased to announce that the SCCCD Board of Trustees appointed Becky Barabe as the new Dean of Instruction, Applied Technology, at Fresno City College. Ms. Barabe is currently employed as the director of business, industry, community services at Merced Community College District. She has been employed in this position for five years. Prior to that she worked for one year as the director of workplace learning resource center at Merced Community College District. Ms. Barabe served as the executive director at the Westside Tule Enterprise Community in Coalinga for seven years. She earned her bachelor of arts in comparative literature from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned her masters of arts in administrative leadership from Fresno Pacific University. She is currently enrolled in the educational leadership in higher education doctoral program with Concordia University, Portland, Oregon. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Barabe to the college!
In a message sent out last week, there was a typo in the portion of my message regarding Rio Waller – please see the corrected version below and the special announcement from Compact Fresno.
Rio Waller, Computer Information Technology Instructor: She unselfishly gives of her time to assist faculty with creating videos and most recently, assisting faculty with the Canvas transition. Her self-proclaimed teaching mantra is to provide a “…safe, fun, affordable learning environment for students.” Instructor Waller is also committed to keeping student costs to a minimum, as such, she secures OER course materials that are 90% free. She works to identify methods for her students (and actually all FCC students and faculty) to connect with the local tech community. From GDG DevFest, to Women TechMakers (of which she was a founder), Rio has taken a leadership position in her department to give FCC’s Computer Information Technology Department a face in the community.
The Google Developers Group (GDG) was just selected as Top 10 Business Partner through the Fresno Compact and will be recognized at their March 1 luncheon.
She is a stellar representative of the Business Division and the FCC campus. I humbly thank you.
Please also see the attached 2016 December report for FCC that includes activities, announcements and information about our campus. Have a wonderful winter break! Thank you for all you do for our students!
