Campus Message: May, 2017
Office of the President
GRADUATIONS
Dear Fresno City College Community,
The end of every semester is a nostalgic time as we reflect on the accomplishment and successes the college has achieved this past academic year. As we celebrate each milestone in our students’ lives, we find joy when we see the happy faces of our scholars and their families as our students complete their studies at FCC, reach their goals, complete a program or class and celebrate their achievements. There is great pride in our students, our faculty and in all of us who have played a part in making a difference in our students’ lives.
The highest honor we can give a student is the Dean’s Medallion of Excellence. I am pleased to announce this year’s winners who will be honored at a special ceremony on Thursday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m. in OAB 251. They are:
Ms. Alycia Pineda
Allied Health, Physical Education and Athletics Division
Ms. Kiesha Oliver
Applied Technology Division
Mr. Adrian Jimenez
Business Division
Ms. Marissa Sanchez
Humanities Division
Mr. Miguel Zendejas
Social Sciences Division
Mr. Christopher Forestiere
Counseling and Guidance
Following the Dean’s Medallion Ceremony, we will have the Honors Recognition Ceremony at 7 p.m. in the OAB Auditorium. All students graduating with honors are invited to this ceremony.
Students who have earned a certificate this year are being celebrated at the Certificate Recognition Ceremony. This ceremony will be held in the OAB Auditorium on Friday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m.
I’m looking forward to my first Commencement Ceremony at Fresno City College. I’ve been hearing many good things about this ceremony and I know a lot of effort and planning has gone into making this ceremony a special and dignified event. Commencement begins at 6:30 p.m. in Selland Arena on Friday, May 19. Our Distinguished Alumnus and Commencement speaker is Gold Medal Olympian and community leader Mr. Maxie Parks. I hope you’ll be able to join us for this traditional ceremony. I have to warn you, though, you’ll be humming “Pomp and Circumstance” for week to come!
A few other items of note this semester. We’ve started the preliminary planning process for our projects included in the Measure C bond. We’ve had a series of planning sessions with PMSM-Architects to get an idea of how our college community would like to proceed. We’ve also started a dialog with our , rs near the college to get input from them. We’ve held one “Being Good Neighbors” community conversation and we have another meeting set for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22 in OAB 251.
You may remember hearing about our Veterans Resource Center being in the spotlight on our local PBS station. ValleyPBS came out a couple of months ago and produced a profile of our VRC that they are showing on air. We are very proud to be part of this nationwide efforts to highlight services made available to veterans. The video is also online. Here’s the link: http://video.valleypbs.org/video/2366000199
There is so much more to share with you. We’ve included other noteworthy items in this month’s College Report. Please take a minute to read it and learn more about the great things happening on our campus.
