Campus Message: April 2019
Office of the President
Special Message from the President
Good afternoon Colleagues,
Last night, Fresno City College hosted the State Center Community College Board of Trustees meeting and a joint Clovis Community College and FCC Athletic Celebration. It was quite a night for Fresno City College! Our Athletic Director, Pamm Zierfuss-Hubbard, organized a collaborative program that highlighted the academic accomplishments as well as the athletic excellence of our teams. A big “thank you” to her and all of the coaches, staff and faculty who came out to join us in celebrating our students.
Of most importance, our trustees approved three significant resolutions that are necessary for the college to pursue a parking structure. This is a development that should be celebrated. The college and community have long awaited for a parking solution that is suitable for a large urban college. The three resolutions were approved and will allow the district to start the Design-Build process. If you would like more information on the three resolutions and the Design-Build process, click on this link to BoardDocs.
The Fresno City College parking structure will provide additional parking stalls and alleviate parking limitations while more efficiently managing vehicle parking on our campus through the replacement of the existing surface parking spaces in Lots P and T by the design and construction of a multiple-level parking structure to accommodate up to 1,000 parking spaces. The anticipated cost to complete the design and construction of the project is estimated at $15,000,000. It is expected that through the use of the Design-Build process, the district will issue Requests for Proposals and bring back to the Board of Trustees a recommendation to award a DBE contract at or before the December 2019 meeting. As this project continues to develop, we will keep you informed.
The college also highlighted two important educational and training programs that will be offered at the new West Fresno Campus. Vice President Don Lopez, Dean Dr. Becky Barabe, along with automotive faculty members Marty Kamimoto and Doug Rosendahl, provided an update on the FCC Advanced Transportation and Robotics programs.
The college also had an opportunity to share information about the important educational and training programs that will be offered at the new First Responder Academy Campus. Vice President Don Lopez, Dean Dr. Becky Barabe, along with faculty members Fred Johnson and Peter Cacossa, provided an update on the size, scope and successes of the FCC Police and Fire Academies.
Lastly, I want to thank all of the people who worked so hard to make the April board meeting a success, including the FCC Building Services crew and the IT Team for their efforts and the administrators who gave up their parking spaces so that the trustees had a place to park…and not disrupt faculty and staff parking needs. Several positive comments were made about this gesture.
