Virtual Commencement: March 3, 2021
One of the most exciting times of the year is celebrating the extraordinary achievements of our students who have worked hard to earn their associate degrees at Fresno City College. In this time of COVID-19, the college is tasked with trying to find adequate ways to celebrate these achievements, especially commencement. In 2020, FCC held a successful virtual commencement ceremony. This year will be no different. FCC President Dr. Carole Goldsmith has announced that the 2021 Commencement Ceremony will also be virtual.
“The Commencement Ceremony we hold each year is a one of the greatest acknowledgements to our students where we salute their perseverance and dedication especially during a pandemic,” Dr. Goldsmith said.
Over the past couple of years, because of our dedicated staff and faculty and our dedicated students, Fresno City College has been proud to report that the number of degrees earned continues to grow each year. Last year, a record 2,106 degrees were awarded. By all early indications, this year’s graduating class is projected to be larger. The deadline to apply for graduation just passed, so the final count won’t be known for another month.
“As Fresno City College continues to uphold its commitment to keep students and staff safe and healthy, the college must sometimes make difficult decisions that may not be popular,” remarked Dr. Goldsmith. “This decision was made in consultation with our own health officers, faculty, staff and those at the Fresno County Office of Public Health to ensure that the best possible resolution was reached.”
A college committee is working on finalizing the elements of the virtual ceremony. More details will be forthcoming.
