March 1, 2024: Women's History Month
In March 1978, Congress passed Public Law 100-9, designating March as Women’s History Month. As we observe Women’s History Month 2024, we celebrate the national theme, Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Women’s History Month serves as a time to honor the remarkable achievements and contributions of women throughout history who have tirelessly advocated for equity, diversity, and inclusion in all facets of life. It is an opportunity to recognize the pivotal role women have played in shaping our society and to acknowledge the ongoing struggles women face in achieving true gender equity.
Fresno City College is joining the global effort to celebrate Women’s History Month with a series of events. You will find the Women’s History Month schedule on the FCC Website at www.fresnocitycollege.edu/WHM.
International Women’s Day (March 8, 2024) is a global commemoration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This day also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equity. International Women’s Day (IWD) has been observed for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.
Fresno City College will celebrate International Women’s Day on Thursday, March 7, in Veterans Square from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. with the theme “Inspire Inclusion,” honoring the invaluable contributions of women who champion these values. This day offers an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and the challenges that lie ahead in achieving gender equity. It is a time to recognize the trailblazing women who have paved the way for future generations and to celebrate the diversity of experiences and perspectives that enrich our society.
We warmly extend our invitation to you to be a part of this inspirational event dedicated to fostering a culture of diversity and empowerment. Let us unite on this day to recognize the achievements of women throughout history and amplify the voices advocating for a more inclusive future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Pimentel
President
