College Report: January 2022
Extreme Registration
For the second semester, an in-person Extreme Registration event was held on January 4 and 5 in the library with staff and faculty assisting students with applications, new student orientation, assessment placement, counseling, registration, financial aid, and business services. A total of 699 students were seen in person and virtually. Special thanks to interim Director of College Relations and Outreach, Nicholas Lucio and interim Dean of Counseling, George Alvarado for coordinating this event safely.
Ram Ready
Ram Ready is our new student welcome event that took place January 3-5. The multifaceted event included online tutorials designed to help new students become familiar with the college with an extra emphasis on distance learning and technology. Students engaged with FCC faculty, staff, and other students through live events and workshops held daily. These live events and workshops included sessions on financial aid, library and tutorial services, Canvas, textbooks, and more. This event is recommended for all first-time students to FCC.
Welcome Week
This week the Student Activities Office is offering IN-PERSON Information Booths at the Main Fountain area through Thursday, January 13. Yesterday, they helped over 400 students with computer access, finding their classes and locating offices, connecting their phones and devices to campus WiFi, activating email accounts and orienting them to the Canvas software. Open zoom sessions will also be available during the first week of school.
PPE Distribution
The college has prepared for a safe return to campus for students by providing thousands of KN95 and surgical masks. In addition, classrooms are stocked with hand sanitizers for faculty and students to utilize. The college will continue to distribute these items during the spring semester.
