HBCU Caravan

  Students talking to college reps

The HBCU Caravan/College Fair was held on Monday, November 4 in the FCC Cafeteria. Over 40+ HBCU representatives provided students with spot admissions, scholarships, and raffle prizes. Presentations were made by the Divine 9 Fraternities and Sororities. See KSEE story regarding the caravan visit.

HBCU Student Tour

Studnets with President Armstrong

Ten FCC students along with President Kim Armstrong and UMOJA Counselor, Dr. Arrie Smith, traveled to Atlanta, GA, Tuskegee and Montgomery, AL, to tour several Historically Black Colleges and Universities in October. In addition, the students also went to the Legacy Museum in Montgomery and to the Martin Luther King Museum in Atlanta. Each college also provided a historical account of their existence in reference to the Civil War, Civil Rights Movement, and their connections to historical leaders such Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and W.E.B. Du Bois.

Veterans Ceremony

Kathy BonillaOn November 7, the 31st Veterans Ceremony was held in Veterans Square honoring our Gulf Veterans and presenting the Citizen Soldier Award posthumously to Kathy Bonilla’s family. Kathy worked as the FCC Public Information Officer for over 32 years and was a long-standing member of the Veterans Day Memorial Committee. The keynote speaker was Fresno County Sheriff Correctional Sergeant Paul Haros.

Theatre Production

Puppet touching reaching to human hand

The fall theatre production, Hand to God, is about a shy, inquisitive student who finds an outlet for his burgeoning creativity at the Christian Puppet Ministry. The play takes place in a devoutly religious, relatively quiet small town of Cypress. Hand to God explores the startlingly fragile nature of faith, morality, and the ties that bind us. The production runs from November 21 – 24 in the Studio Theatre.

New Wrinkles: A Little Night Music

A Little Night Music

Join the New Wrinkles cast as they present, A Few of our Favorite Things to Sing! Performances are November 9 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the OAB Auditorium. Tickets are $10.

Jazz Concert Slated

Sax and jazzThe FCC Jazz Ensembles is performing on November 13 in the Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The concert will also feature the Atlantic and Columbia Group and will be directed by music instructor Paul Lucckesi.

Piano Recital

PianoIntermediate and Advanced piano students will perform on Friday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the OAB Auditorium. Admission is free and donations are accepted at the door.

Rams Jams

Rams JamsEnjoy an evening of guitar music as FCC students present an exciting program of
solo and ensemble music on November 14. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the OAB Auditorium with a $10 suggested donation.

National Apprenticeship Week

FCC is hosting a National Apprenticeship Week event on Friday, November 22 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the West Fresno Center. This event will include tabling from the 12 Building Trades Council, Fresno Regional Workforce Development Board, and State Center Community College District’s Apprenticeship program. A lunch and learn panel is slated with apprenticeship program experts.

EOPS 55th Anniversary

On November 18, EOPS will celebrate the 55th anniversary of their program from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in their office. The open house will include information tables, history of EOPS, tours with staff and faculty and refreshments.

Parent and Child Literacy Workshop

FCC child development instructors Chamroeun Yann and Monica Soublet will facilitate a hands-on workshop engaging student parents in early literacy on November 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the new Child Development Center. Student parents will create their own storybooks and puppets to share with their family at home. Seats are limited and registration is required.

Dental Hygiene Celebrates 50 Years

Dental Hygiene CelebratingCongratulations to the FCC Dental Hygiene Program on 50 years of success! Joanne Pacheco, dental hygiene instructor and coordinator, organized the daylong celebration that took place on October 26 with 100 people in attendance. The event was attended by alumni, dentists, the president-elect for the Fresno-Madera Dental Society, dental hygiene students and dental assisting students. Activities included presentations by second year students on timely research topics, a continuing education class presented by a board-certified radiologist, a Crest Oral B sponsored breakfast, Patterson Dental sponsored lunch, and Ultradent provided celebratory cupcakes!

City Dance Fundraiser

Dancers at past shows collaged

A sneak peak fundraiser was held to benefit the FCC Dance Program on November 7 in the Theatre. The event included guest performances by Gabe Copeland, Hannah Millar and the Company Imprints. Funds raised will support student scholarships, future guest artists and performance needs.

Sports Update

Rams Volleyball Team

The volleyball team is ranked #2 in the state with an overall record of 22-4 and is undefeated in the Central Valley Conference (CVC) with a 12-0 record. Congratulations to head wrestling coach Paul Keyshaw for earning his 300 Dual Meet win at the Simpson Duals in Redding. The Rams went 4-0 in Redding on November 2 and defeated 2 NAIA (Linfield and Corban) programs from Oregon and a 3rd NAIA program (Evergreen State) from Washington. The final win came against national JC power Southwest Oregon. The women’s soccer team has a 13-2-1 record overall and 9-0-1 in the CVC. They hold the #1 position in the conference and are 7th in state standings. The Rams football team is currently 6-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. FCC and Reedley are set to face off in the Battle for the Pump at Ratcliffe Stadium on November 16 at 1:00 p.m.
