Inspiring Student Award
FCC Associated Student Body President, Nassiba Agbere, received the Inspiring Student Award on March 11 from the Fresno County Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She is a student athlete on the cross country
team and is majoring in Pre-Law. Nassiba will be graduating in May and hopes to become a lawyer and advocate. She moved to the United States with her family at the age of 17 from Togo located in West Africa
Welding Instructor Nationally Recognized
Congratulations to welding instructor, Brett Camacho, for receiving the Howard E. Adkins Memorial Instructor Membership Award from the American Welding Society. He has been the welding and fabrication
educator at FCC for 19 years. Instructor Camacho is a Certified Welding Inspector and has helped transform the welding program into one of California’s most technologically advanced.
Employee Recognition Ceremony
On Friday, April 4, the FCC Employee Recognition Awards Ceremony will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Services awards will be given to faculty and classified Professionals in recognition for milestone work anniversaries.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
The FCC Title IX Office will host informational fairs with resources regarding sexual assault on April 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Veterans Square and on April 8 at the West Fresno Center from 10:00 a.m.
to Noon in the main lobby. FCC is hosting “Take Back the Night” in collaboration with Clovis Community
College on Tuesday, April 29 from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. in FCC Veterans Square. Take Back the Night is a non-profit committed to ending sexual violence in all forms and for all people of all sexual and gender identities, races, ethnicities, nationalities, religious beliefs, ages, abilities, and statuses. Mirna Garcia with RAINN, Rape Abuse & Incest National Network will be the keynote speaker. She is a survivor of the “Tower Rapist” who terrorized the Tower District in the early 90’s.
Rising Scholars Symposium
The 5th Annual FCC Rising Scholars Symposium is on April 28 in the Old Administration Building, where workshops will be centered around supporting formerly incarcerated and systems-impacted students in
higher education. This year’s theme, “Voices of Resilience,” emphasizes the strength and determination of those navigating the complexities of reintegration into academic life. A diverse group of attendees, including
students, educators, and community advocates—will come together to foster a safe and inclusive dialogue about the unique challenges faced by justice-impacted students and reentry.
Asian American Month Activities
The month of April is loaded with an array of Asian-inspired events that include a series of workshops and panel discussions including Principles of Leadership, Hmong and Lao Lifecycles, Asian American Leadership Journeys, and the Asians in the City 2025 Book Reading. It will culminate with a Sake Garden at the Night Market Friday, April 25 and Asian Fest on Saturday, April 26. This year will celebrate the Year of the Snake, with non-stop live entertainment featuring Taiko Drummers, Lion Dancers, Dragon Dancers, and the excitement of traditional and contemporary performances. Tutor Expo
On March 29, FCC hosted the 9th annual SCCCD Tutor Expo, bringing together 300 peer tutors from across the district. Tutors from Fresno City, Madera, Reedley, and Clovis Community Colleges gathered to exchange
ideas and inspire innovation in student support. The event featured poster and slideshow presentations, all focused on the theme “FUN-damentals of Tutoring: Making Tutoring Engaging and Fun.“
College Advisory Event Slated
The annual Perkins Advisory Night is on Thursday, April 3 from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. for all FCC Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. The event will take place at the four FCC campuses that includes the West
Fresno Center, First Responders Campus and the Career & Technology Center. A meet and greet session with dinner is planned along with program meetings for each division. The projected attendance will be approximately 300 participants from Allied Health, Applied Technology, Business Education, Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, Math, Science and Engineering, and Social Sciences.
Dolores Huerta
The Latino Faculty and Staff Association, Puente, and the FCC Ethnic and Gender Studies program will bring legendary Civil Rights Activist, Dolores Huerta to campus on Wednesday, April 30 in the Old Administration Building Auditorium from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. The 94-year-old labor leader is the co-founder of the National Farm Workers Association, founded in 1962 as a precursor to the United Farm Workers (UFW), which aimed to empower farmworkers and improve their working conditions. Admission is free.
Celebration of Holi
The International Student Office is hosting a Holi: Festival of Colours
on April 3 from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. in Veterans Square. Holi, widely known as the Hindu festival of colors, is a
joyful annual celebration marking the advent of spring. Everyone is invited to participate in this fun event that includes throwing colored powder and dressing in a white or black shirt to create a human kaleidoscope.
Earth Day 2025
The FCC Speakers Forum welcomes the Olympic Gold Medalist and WNBA Hall of Famer, Chamique Holdsclaw to campus on March 20 at noon in the OAB Auditorium. She will share with students her “unquiet journey” through mental health challenges including serious bouts of depression, manic episodes, a suicide attempt, and being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and severe anxiety. As part of her visit, Ms. Holdsclaw will also meet the FCC Women’s Basketball Team.
City Jazz Festival
The 33rd City Jazz Festival is slated for March 20-21. The two-day event features 35 high school bands. Percussionist and composer, Sasha Berliner, is the featured artist on Thursday, March 20 at noon. She will be joined by the FCC Jazz Ensemble in the Theatre. Admission is free.
Earth Day 2025
Fresno City College is the home of Earth Day Fresno 2025. Co-sponsored by the Environmental Collaborative of Central California (EcoCenCal) and FCC’s Math, Science, and Engineering Division, this free outdoor festival will take place, rain or shine on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the West Lawn next to the Old Administration Building.
The opening ceremony will include a tree planting with Tree Fresno, followed by live music, local food trucks, and hands-on activities for all ages. Enjoy interactive exhibits and demonstrations, including solar cooking, eBike demos, and sustainable gardening tips. Plus, take home free compost buckets from Caglia Environmental, 5-gallon trees from PG&E’s Right Tree, Right Place program, and much more.
Police Academy Graduation
Class #176, consisting of 44 cadets, celebrated the completion of their basic police training on Friday, March 28 at People’s Church. The class began their training on September 23, 2024. The cadets successfully
completed the Police Academy’s 1,030-hour intensive format passing over 42 topical areas including criminal law, investigations, patrol and juvenile procedures, vehicle operations, traffic, emergency management, first aid, professionalism and ethics, physical training, and many other related subjects. Thirty-nine of the 44 cadets were badged by their future employer from city, county and State of California law enforcement agencies.
Music Events
The Spring Music Recital #2 will be held on Friday, April 25 in the Recital Hall at noon. The performance
will feature both solo and chamber works. The 40th Annual Brass Bash is scheduled for April 25 at the FCC Theatre and will feature local college and community brass performances along with special guest artist, Dr. Alia Kuhnert.
Dance
The spring semester City Dance recital will be held on April 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and April 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the FCC Theatre. A special Sneak Peek Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite. The concert, entitled, “Outside the Limits” will feature students and faculty as they celebrate dance and share their creative expression through movement. Sports Update
Torch of Excellence
Over 230 FCC student athletes have qualified for the annual Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Awards Banquet. The event will be held on April 30 at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building.
