The Communication program offers a full range of Communication courses including public speaking, interpersonal communication, persuasion, group communication, argumentation, forensics (speech and debate), and community involvement. Several sections each semester are offered in a hybrid format. In addition to teaching necessary verbal and written skills, the program offers courses needed to earn an associate’s degree as well as transfer to a four-year university. The program is proud to offer a transfer degree in communication, making it simple to transfer to a Communication program in the California State University system.

Forensics
The Fresno City College forensics (speech and debate) team has been consistently ranked highly among all competing colleges and universities in the nation and first among community colleges. Students may earn units for participation in the forensics program by enrolling in Speech 26.
Intramural Speech Competitions
We offer Intramural Speech Competitions that are open to all students with little or no competitive speaking experience. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved in a campus activity that will enhance their resume and provide them with the experience of speaking in a competitive environment.
Fresno City College Storytelling Festival
The Fresno City College Storytelling Festival focuses on bringing storytelling to students. Stories may be entertaining or cathartic, true or imagined. The act of storytelling does more than simply share a message; it imparts empathy and fosters language development. Stories create connection. Under the leadership of a Fresno City College Communication Instructor and student volunteers, students find inspiration at the annual storytelling festival featuring renowned storytellers from around the country. The festival is held in conjunction with the Mariposa Festival and Friends of the Arts at Fresno City College.
