Nereyda Maroot is a tenured professor of all levels of Spanish who mostly enjoys teaching native speakers’ classes. A graduate of California State University, Fresno (CSUF), Mrs. Maroot obtained both her B.A. and M.A. in Spanish Literature and Culture. A native speaker of Spanish herself, she was born, raised, and educated in Mexico. She has been a recipient of several grants to further her language learning and teaching techniques; among them are the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH), Fulbright-Hays Grant, Center for International Trade Development (CITD), and the Spanish Embassy.
She is active on various state, community, district, and campus wide committees; among them are the California Subject Matter Project (CSMP), California Language Teachers Association (CLTA), California Community Colleges Foreign Language Council (CCCFLC), Central California World Languages Project (CCWLP), Central Valley Regional Bilingual Dual Language Consortium (CVBDLC), Central Valley World Languages Association (CVWLA), State Center Community Colleges District (SCCCD) Study abroad, International Education and Equivalency committees, PUENTE program, and Latino Faculty and Staff Association (LFSA).
Nereyda’s classroom instruction is always well-prepared and thoughtfully designed, and she creates a positive and supportive learning environment for her students. Her passion for language instruction is evident in her teaching methods, which are innovative, engaging, and always tailored to the needs of the individual student. She has a unique ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to take risks, explore new ideas, and push themselves to achieve their full potential.
