National Dance Day
As part of celebrating National Dance Day, Fresno City College will be hosting a variety of free master dance classes from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 29 that will feature a special masters class with Robert Hoffman from the movie Step Up 2.
“The day is full of FREE dance classes that range in genres and styles,” said FCC instructor Cristal Tiscareno. “Participants will enjoy a variety of dance while also watching performances throughout the day and finish the evening learning the So You Think You Can Dance syndicated choreography.”
National Dance Day was created to encourage many in the country to embrace dance in a fun positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity. In 2002, Congresswomen Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced a resolution declaring July 29 as National Dance Day.
Classes to be held include hip hop, tap, ballet, African, contemporary, ballroom and jazz. Previous students who participated in Fresno City College’s dance program will be teaching a majority of the master dance classes, according to Tiscareno.
Tiscarano noted that the highlight of the day will be Hoffman, who will be teaching a master hip-hop class and sitting on the performance showcase panel.
“The community will be able to view entertaining dance and also hear input from professionals, thus completing the evening,” Tiscareno said.
Minors interested in participating must have a waiver signed by their parents.
