Veterans Day Ceremony
The annual Veterans Day Ceremony honoring all U.S. Veterans will take place from noon – 1 p.m. on Friday, November 3 at Fresno City College.
The ceremony will be held in front of the Veterans Peace Memorial located in the Free Speech Area between the Bookstore and the Cafeteria on the Fresno City College campus.
In addition to special presentations a rifle salute, and taps will conclude the ceremony. A reception will follow.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Mr. Lorenzo Rios, a decorated veteran of both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. Mr. Rios served 23 years in the military, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army in 2015. He was awarded two bronze stars for combat leadership in Iraq and Afghanistan in addition to many other service awards. Mr. Rios now serves as the chief executive officer for the Clovis Veterans Memorial District.
This year’s Citizen Soldier Award will be presented to Mr. Charles Hunnicutt who served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Hunnicutt worked as the Fresno County Veterans Service Officer until his retirement this year. He has served as the county representative for veterans, chairing the Veterans Employment Committee (VEC) for several years and is a champion for the veteran population in Fresno County.
This annual event is traditionally held the Friday prior to Veterans Day while classes are still in session so that students, faculty and staff can attend. The community is also welcome to attend.
