FCC's Keri Leake named MVP
The 2018 All-CVC women's volleyball team is announced with Fresno City College volleyball player Keri Leake topping the list of post-season awards. Keri is the Central Valley Conference 2018 Most Valuable Player. A number of her team members were also honored.
Conference MVP: Keri Leake
Conference First Team: Katie Emmerling, Marina Gonzalez
Conference Second Team: Abbey Briggs, Mandy Campise, Jenna Guin
Honorable Mention: Mia Corippo, Kenidi MacDonald
The FCC volleyball team went undefeated in conference play and won the CVC conference. They competed in the finals of the state championships but lost in a tough battle against American River College after five sets. The team was part of the first all-Northern California championship in 42 years. The team also had the longest winning streak in the state this season at 27 matches.
Middle blocker Keri Leake will be playing next year for Fresno State. At the state finals, she was named All-American. In September, Keri was named Northern California player of the week and that catapulted her to being named the National player of the week for 2-year colleges through the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association). She currently ranks fourth in the state in hitting percentage.
“We had an amazing season and we capped it off with being a part of the first all Nor Cal State Championship. Our determined mindset heading into playoffs was the baseline for the incredible run we had,” said Kieran Roblee, head coach. “The 2018 team had a tremendous focus and a commitment to long term growth and if you ask any of us (staff and players), this season will be one that will be forever cemented with fond memories.”
