Interfaith Scholar Weekend 2021 Webinar Series
Fresno City College is once again pleased to co-sponsor the 2021 Interfaith Scholar Weekend event. This year due to COVID-19 restrictions, the usual in-person events will not be held and instead will be presented virtually. The Interfaith Scholar Weekend committee invites you to join and register for the six-session webinar series entitled, “Bearing Witness from Fresno’s Mason-Dixon Line.”
The opening panel is slated for Monday, February 15 at 4:00 pm and will include a conversation with three guest scholars—Dr. Nathan Hensley, Associate Professor at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; Dr. Malik Simba, Professor Emeritus of History and Africana Studies, Fresno State University; and Uziel Jimenez, Antiracist Educator, and Co-founder of the Fresno Ethnic Studies Coalition.
Four book study webinars are scheduled for February 22, March 1, 8 and 15 and are sponsored and hosted by Fresno City College. Each of these Monday webinars we will take a deep dive into Eddie S. Glaude’s New York Times bestselling book, Begin Again: James Baldwin's America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own. All webinars are free and will start at 4:00 pm.
The weekly faith speakers include:
- Reverend Paul Binion, Pastor of Westside Church of God, Fresno
- Rabbi Dr. Laura Novak Winer, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion
- Hajj Reza Nekumanesh, Executive Director, Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno
- Veena Howard, PhD, Professor Asian Religions Coordinator, Peace and Conflict Studies, Fresno State University Coordinator
The closing roundtable is on Monday, March 22, from 4–5:30 pm and will be moderated by Jim Grant, Chair, Interfaith Scholar Weekend Committee along with the weekly faith speakers.
