Police Academy Graduation

Aug 17, 2021

The Fresno City College Police Academy will celebrate the graduation of Class #164, Tuesday, August 17 at 9:00 a.m. on the outdoor Parade Deck at the Police Academy.   The ceremony for 15 cadets will follow COVID-19 protocols including wearing face masks for this outdoor event.

This year has been a particularly challenging one and now it is time for these cadets to go out and serve their communities. Class #164 began their training on May 24, 2021. The cadets successfully completed the Academy’s 550-hour Module I format which covers over 42 topical areas including criminal law, investigations, patrol and juvenile procedures, vehicle operations, traffic, emergency management, first aid, professionalism and ethics, physical training, and many other related subjects.

“The police academy is important to our community because we provide cadets to support our law enforcement/correctional training partners. All of our training is designed to ensure our communities have the best trained personnel to make our communities a safe place to live,” said Gary Fief, Police Academy Director.

The Police Academy is certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training to present the basic academy course.  A graduate is eligible to be hired as a police officer, deputy sheriff or district attorney investigator anywhere in California. Several other states recognize this certificate for employment.  Twelve cadets have already been offered jobs at local agencies including the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Kingsburg Police Department, Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office and the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
