Police Academy Class 167 Completes Basic Training Program
Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims is the guest speaker at the Basic Police Academy Completion Ceremony for Class #167. The class of 38 cadets will celebrate the end of their basic police training on Friday, July 1, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at CrossCity Church, 2777 E. Nees Avenue in Fresno. Sheriff Mims is an alumna of the academy. She was a graduate of Police Academy Class #14 in 1980.
FCC President, Dr. Robert Pimentel, will participate in presenting certificates. It will be his first official day as FCC’s new president. Joining Dr. Pimentel is Police Academy director Gary Fief, Kerman PD Chief John Golden, and Police Academy recruit training officer Shant Sheklanian. Awards will be given for top physical training, law enforcement skills, academics, and best all-around student.
Class #167 began their training on January 10, 2022. The cadets successfully completed the Academy’s 1030-hour intensive format passing over 42 topical areas including criminal law, investigations, patrol and juvenile procedures, vehicle operations, traffic, emergency management, first aid, professionalism and ethics, physical training, and many other related subjects.
The Police Academy is certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training to present the basic academy course. Graduates are eligible to be hired as a police officer, deputy sheriff or district attorney investigator, Department of Insurance Investigator, Department of Motor Vehicles Investigator or Alcohol Beverage Control Investigator anywhere in California. Several other states recognize this certificate for employment.
Of the 38 cadets, 35 have already been offered jobs at local agencies and will be receiving their badges at the ceremony. Agencies include police departments in Fresno, Clovis, Reedley, and Madera, also sheriff’s departments in Fresno and Madera.
