CCC-to-HBCU Caravan Connects Central Valley Students with Historic Transfer Opportunities to HBCUs
On Monday, November 4, the CCC-to-HBCU Caravan, an innovative initiative aimed at boosting transfer opportunities for African American students, will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the FCC Cafeteria. This engaging event connects community college students with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), promoting transfer pathways for those seeking a seamless transition to a four-year institution and access to high-quality higher education.
The California Community College Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) has partnered with HBCUs to increase transfer rates for African American students, who have been historically underrepresented in higher education. With participation from over 20 HBCUs, students will have the unique opportunity to engage directly with admissions representatives, gain insights on the application process, and understand the benefits of attending an HBCU.
The event will include various activities, guest speakers, and the “Divine 9 Presentation” highlighting historically African American fraternities and sororities. Students can also participate in raffles and enjoy music played by a live DJ throughout the day.
Notable speakers will include Reedley College President, Dr. Jerry Buckley, Madera Community College President Dr. Angel Reyna, and Fresno City College President, Dr. Kim Armstrong, who will share their perspectives on the significance of HBCUs in higher education. "This event offers a unique bridge to students, providing them with opportunities to thrive and excel at institutions that foster academic success and cultural pride," said FCC President, Dr. Armstrong.
The CCC-to-HBCU Caravan is free to attend, and students from all backgrounds are encouraged to participate and explore the possibilities of transferring to an HBCU.
