Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill is Thursday, October 17
Oct 16, 2024 —
On Thursday, October 17, 2024, Fresno City College will once again participate in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill. This is an international activity designed for organizations to practice earthquake safety. This is the second consecutive year that Fresno City College will participate in the drill and will involve the entire campus. The drill will begin at 10:17 a.m. and will only take about 5-7 minutes to complete.
Last year’s drill gave FCC the opportunity to prepare in case of an emergency. This year, an incident command team will again be set up and the college will implement lessons learned from 2023.
This is how the activity will work:
- At 10:17 AM, an emergency alarm will sound. Personnel in all buildings will duck and take cover. After a few minutes, they will be asked to exit the building and walk to a safe area away from their respective building.
- During this time, the FCC police cadets and EMS students will be on campus going through areas of campus to make sure everyone exited as planned and looking for individuals trapped or hurt.
- An all-clear signal will then be heard and everyone will return to their offices and classrooms.
- The entire activity should take no longer than 5-7 minutes!
- Following the drill, the incident command team will convene in the Old Administration Building, room 114 to debrief and discuss the drill.
