Black History Month
Labor & Liberation
is the theme of this year’s Black History Month celebration at Fresno City College.  It is hosted by the African American Faculty and Staff Association. The month-long celebration begins Monday, February 3 with an Opening Ceremony at 12:30 p.m. in the Old Administration Building Auditorium. 

The Opening Ceremony will include the singing of the Black National Anthem by FCC student Dwight Samuel and a Libation Ceremony by FCC students. This year’s keynote speaker is Mr. Theodore Bernard, M.A., PPS, from the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. This year events will be held at FCC and the West Fresno Center. Week 1:

  • 2/3 – Black Owned Vendor Fair in front of the Old Administration Building (OAB)  from 12:00 -3:00pm
  • 2/4 – Financial Literacy Workshop with presenter Daryl Muhammed from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. in the Old Administration Building, Room 188
  • 2/5 – Economic Prosperity Workshop and Real Estate Education for the Black Community with presenter Krishna Lott- 12-1 pm – OAB, room 251
  • 2/6 – Speakers Forum at the West Fresno Center with local author David K Meyers at 10:00 a.m. in Forum Hall 127

Week 2:

  • 2/12 Black History Month Read-In from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the West Fresno Center in Forum Hall 127
  • 2/12 Sistah Circle: Black Women & the Labor Movement from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in OAB 251
  • 2/13- Interpersonal Workshop with Presenter Umoja Counselor Wesley Flowers, Barbershop: Relationship vs Situationships, 13:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Library, Room 140

Week 3: 

  • 2/18 – Tech & Trades Workshop Presenter: Counselor Julie Lynes – 12:30–1:30 pm in OAB 188
  • 2/19 - Workshop presented by the Black Farmers Association & the Sweet Potato Project - 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in OAB 118

Closing Week

  • 2/27 – Black History Month—Closing Ceremony – 12:30 - 1:30 pm – OAB, room 118             
  • 2/28- Speakers Forum Harambee’s Mental Health Conference, 10:00 a.m. in the OAB Auditorium
