National Geographic Photographer to Speak at FCC Awards Reception
The Fresno City College Photography Department will present their annual Hanna S. Barsam Excellence in Photography Award on April 24th, 2025 at 7 p.m. This year will feature special guest speaker Nevada Wier. Wier is a multiple award-winning photographer specializing in documenting the remote corners of the world and the cultures that inhabit them. She is recognized for her creative and intimate approach to people, as well as her intriguing infrared images. She has been published in numerous national and international publications, including: National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic Adventure, Geo, Islands, NY Times Magazine, Outside, and Smithsonian. Nevada’s work is represented by National Geographic Images and Getty. She is a Fellow of The Explorer’s Club and a member of the Women’s Geographic Society.
Award Reception Information
This reception and ceremony will be held at Fresno City College in The Old Administration building, Room OAB-251. The winner of the award will receive a $1500 cash prize, a one-year student membership to Spectrum Art Gallery, and a $100 Gift Card to Horn Photo. This year's nominees are Brianna Gagliardi, Jackie Garcia, William Manjarrez, Layla Mortier, Brittney Patterson, Jaden Valencia, and Edgar Velásquez.
Meet the Photographer
Nevada Wier is visiting Fresno as Spectrum Art Gallery’s distinguished guest artist. Her exhibition, ‘Invisible World’, is on view now at Spectrum Art Gallery, located at 608 E. Olive in the Tower District, from April 3rd to April 27th. She will be present at the following events:
