New Science Building Opens for the 2025 Spring Semester

Fresno City College will welcome students with the opening of a stunning new Science Building for the 2025 Spring semester. Construction on the $87 million project is completed with faculty and staff moving in and preparing for classes.  The new Science Building is 87,000 square feet and will house the following areas of study:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Engineering and Physics

Funding for the building consists of $79 million from the 2016 Measure C facilities bond, $5 million from Fresno Unified School District, and $3 million from the FCC budget.

The building is three levels featuring modern labs across the science disciplines.  Tutoring spaces and flexible study areas are available for students.

The New Science Building is designed with students in mind and is located on the east side of campus at the intersection of Weldon and Blackstone, providing a sleek, modern feature located across the street from Ratcliffe Stadium.

“This new Science Building is dedicated to biology, chemistry, engineering, and physics and will be a cornerstone of innovation and learning for students.  This facility will inspire and prepare students to tackle challenges in some of the STEM fields, shaping the leaders and innovators of tomorrow,” said Shirley McManus, Dean of Math, Science and Engineering.

In addition, it will also be home to Design Science Middle College High School, continuing a great partnership with Fresno Unified School District. Design Science Middle College High School offers a dual enrollment program that gives students the possibility to earn a high school diploma and an associate degree at the same time.

This is the final construction project to be completed for the college. Other projects included the opening of the Parking Structure in 2022, the West Fresno Center in 2023, the First Responders Campus in 2023 and the Child Development Center in 2024.

Here are a few items to help students get a smooth start for the 2025 Spring Semester

We do recommend that students screenshot or print out their class schedule before coming to campus.  In the past, we have experienced slow response time with the college website during the first week of school because so many people are trying to access it at once.

If students don’t have access to technology, they can go to the Welcome Center near the Parking Structure at Blackstone and Weldon for assistance. The address is 1525 E. Weldon Avenue.  They can be reached by phone at (559) 442-8225.

Welcome Center services include:

  • Onboarding Computer Lab
  • Applying to the College
  • Orientation Completion
  • Financial Aid and A&R documentation printing
  • Help Accessing your Student Portal

Parking on Campus

For those who drive to campus, parking permits are required. They can be purchased online. Remember there are over 800 parking stalls in the FCC Parking Structure near the Blackstone and Weldon entrance. From there students can catch a ride on the campus parking shuttle if they have a class on the other side of campus in the Old Administration Building or Library.

Campus Shuttle Service

The parking shuttle will be available on campus for the first two weeks of the semester from January 13 to January 24.  There are six stops throughout the campus.

Kerman Shuttle

Shuttle service for FCC students who live in Kerman and are enrolled for the spring semester is again available. A separate email has been sent to those students with information on reserving a seat on the shuttle.  Reservations must be made for each ride on the shuttle to and from Kerman.  If you live in Kerman, sign up online through the link found on the FCC website.  There are two times in the morning when students can catch the shuttle in Kerman and two times in the afternoon when the shuttle returns to Kerman.  Times are subject to change based on ridership.

Student ID Cards and Free Bus Pass

The Fresno Area Express (FAX) transit system and Fresno City College will again offer free bus passes for FCC students.  To get the free bus pass, students must pick up a student ID card, now free to all registered students (replacement cards are $5).

Spring 2025 student ID Cards can be taken throughout the semester in the Student Lounge.   The cards provide several benefits to students.

  • Free FAX Bus Pass
  • Discounts at local businesses
  • Game Room Access
  • Free BBQ Lunch
  • $1.00 Admission to FCC Home Sporting Events excluding Playoff/Championship Games

Welcome Week

Welcome Week Spring 2025 is designed to provide information and resources to assist students during the first week of the semester. Information includes classroom locations, department and office hours, and technology resources (Canvas, Self-Service, and student e-mail access). In addition to the main information booth, there will be Ram Pathway booths throughout the campus to assist with questions regarding majors and career paths. Welcome week booths will be open Monday, January 13 to Thursday, January 16 near the Main Fountain.
