Women in Engineering 2025
On Friday, February 21, Fresno City College will host Women in Engineering 2025 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm in the New Science Building located at the intersection of Blackstone and Weldon Avenues. The conference is for female high school students and is designed to encourage young women to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers.
Before the scheduled workshops begin, Robin Woodward, Corporate Affairs Community Advisor from Chevron, will present a grant check of $75,000 to the college. The grant will be used to support and promote STEM education, such as the workshop being held on Friday that provides local high school students the opportunity to participate in STEM-focused activities. The grant will also be utilized to purchase equipment for the newly opened Maker Space. The check presentation will begin at 8:45 a.m. in the outdoor plaza area located on the south side of the New Science Building.
Women in Engineering 2025 is organized by the engineering instructors in the Fresno City College Math, Science, and Engineering Division. More than 70 female students from local high schools will participate in hands-on workshops and demonstrations to introduce them to different engineering fields. The students come from The Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART), Career Technical Education Charter High School (CTEC), Edison High School, Farber Educational Campus and Fresno High School.
The day’s workshops are based on applying the engineering design process to address the given challenges. In the first challenge, participants will apply what they will learn about circuits to design a “Simon Says” light game. For the second workshop, biomedical engineering and the design of prosthetic arms will be discussed. Then students will then use given material to create their own prosthetic arm challenge with carrying and moving different objects.
