LFSA Pláticas - Fall 2023
Join us for the LFSA Pláticas! All are welcome to attend.
What are Pláticas? Platicar is to talk, to converse. Pláticas has come to represent a time when friends, family and colleagues come together to converse, listen and share stores with one another. it's a time to discuss and debate ideas and build community.
All Pláticas are held at Fresno City College in the Old Administration Building (OAB) 251 and on Zoom from 5:30pm - 7pm (Doors open at 5pm)
- September 21 | Chicano Movement | OAB 188, 5:30pm | An introduction to the Chicano Latino Movement in the 20th Century. El Movimiento. Youth, Identity Power and Student Activism.
- September 28 | Chicano Movement Continuation | OAB 251, 5:30pm | Continuing talks of the Chicano Latino Movement. Highlighting the history of Chicano Movement including the creation of Chicano Latino Studies locally.
- October 5 | Folklore and Alebrijes | OAB 251, 5:30pm | Introduction to Folklore and Legends + Alebrije Workshop. Learn the significance spirit animals and the roles they play in different cultural beliefs about the afterlife. Attendees will be able to create their own spirit animal.
- October 12 | Folklore in Children's Films | OAB 251, 5:30pm | Discussion on Mexican Customs and Folklore as presented in media with a focus on children’s movies.
- October 19 | Artistic Expression | OAB 251, 11:30am - 1:00pm |Join us to celebrate our heritage through music, art, poetry, food, and Lotería, in collaboration with the Dream Center! These activities will commemorate the lives from those who’ve passed crossing the border.
- November 16 | Food History and Cooking Demo | Staff Dining Room, 5:30pm (not available on Zoom) | The history and importance of food within Hispanic cultures. In collaboration to International Education Week. Cooking and food samples for attendees

Mission Statement
The Latino Faculty & Staff Association is an educational organization whose purpose is to be an advocate for the Latino issues in higher education which also includes the educational welfare and advancement of the Latino community. Our Goal is to promote the social and cultural dimensions of Latino history, heritage and culture as it relates to education.

Membership and Meetings
Membership is open to all Fresno City College and SCCCD employees and retirees. Annual membership dues can be paid by completing the voluntary payroll deduction form.
Meetings generally take place at 12pm on the third Friday of every month via Zoom unless otherwise noted.

Latino Graduation Celebration
The Latino Graduation Celebration is a bilingual/bicultural event which celebrates the accomplishments of students who have completed all transfer, degree, and certificate requirements for the current academic year.
